February 2023 Library Corner

Welcome back to The Library's Corner! Every month we will feature books recommended by the staff of our very own Howard County Library System! And, as always, the recommendations always hit the mark. This month's offerings are stories of love, culture, and then well, fluff. And there is nothing wrong with a little fluff every know and then. Sometimes we just need it. Remember these books and more are available to you at your local branch of the Howard County Library System.

Ties That Tether by Jane Igharo

This book is a beautiful exploration of culture, family, and romance. It addresses that old conflict between choosing a love for you and the love that your family desires. As an immigrant, I understood the need to preserve heritage and yet adapt to a new world. When a Nigerian woman falls for a man she knows will break her mother’s heart, she must choose between love and her family.

Love in Color: Mythical Tales from Around the World, Retold by Bolu Babalola

Weaving her magic around folktales from West Africa, the Middle East, and even China, alongside Greek and Roman myths that she writes through a more diverse slant, Babaloa's retellings bring each story fully into the modern world.

The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels by India Holton

If you are looking for a bit of fluff and fun to read while sipping tea (maybe with a splash - or glass - of sherry) that nonetheless celebrates competent women and the men who love them - you will enjoy this title. Reader: I adored it!
