Columbia Cultural Fusion

Executive Chef Pedro Duarte started his eponymous catering service in 2019, bringing a fusion of his native Cuba to Caribbean and Mediterranean flavors. His fusion of cultural flavors and time cooking abroad shaped his vision for the food he serves, starting with quality. “The main focus is on freshness, everything we use is as fresh as possible,” he says.

The other emphasis he brings to food is enticing his clients to try something new by exploring cultures through familiar flavors in ways they wouldn’t expect. He offers cooking classes, teaching his clients how to create something different with samplings of Caribbean staples. “I’m originally from Cuba, slow roasted pork, beans, lots of citrus, spice, coconut, and cilantro. Those are flavors I love to work with.” Being a chef has its share of difficulties, but building up the trust of his clients is something that Duarte works toward every day, providing consistent experiences at price points that appeal to all of us.

The other obstacle: time away from his family. The Johnson and Wales graduate and his wife, Evelyn, moved to Maryland from Florida in 2017 with their daughters Mia and Lia, accepting an offer to work as a Chef.  His search for a good school system for his daughters and  places to spend time with his family led him to Howard County. When he is not cooking, Chef Duarte loves spending time exploring the outdoor beauty Columbia has to offer with his wife and their two girls.

His favorite local activity? “Fishing! Any of the local lakes with the girls for a couple of hours is the best thing ever. It is relaxing and good quality time.” If you ever want to treat yourself to great food without the hassle of cooking or going out to a restaurant, try Duarte’s LLC. They offer private chef and catering services.
